Food Pantry

About: Located in Cordier Hall.  A stock of staple food products is distributed to people who need help. The food in the pantry is contributed by parish families. Significant quantities of fresh bread and pastries are brought to the hall for distribution to the poor. The food pantry is open on Tuesday mornings. Volunteers from the parish help to register those in need from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. There are many opportunities to help our needy brothers and sisters through ministries associated with the food pantry.

Tuesday Morning Breakfast For Those In Need

About: Volunteers provide breakfast and a bag lunch for those in need; on Tuesday in conjunction with the food pantry hours, all food is provided from donations and volunteers.

Father Joe’s House (Thrift Shop)

About: Community outreach.  The parish thrift shop is located at 112 Sixth St. beside our main parking lot.  The entrance is at the back of the house.  The thrift shop is open on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month from 7:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.  Donations are accepted on Monday thru Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and the Saturdays that the house is open.  Furniture and appliances must be called-in ahead of time.  The thrift shop is always in need of volunteers.

Community Life

Parish Nurses (Health Ministry)

About: A team of registered nurses with additional training to promote health within the parish community. Together they sponsor health screenings; flu shot clinics, blood drives, classes, individual home visits, respite for family caregivers and other services.

Catholic Daughters of the Americas

About: The Catholic Daughters, founded in 1903 is an international woman’s organization promoting unity and charity through its various activities. This organization of women from various parishes in the Hampton/Newport News area strives to embrace the principal of faith through love in the promotion of justice, equality and the advancement of human rights and human dignity for all.

Nocturnal Adoration Society (Peninsula Deanery)

About: The society is an international organization of Catholic men and women dedicated to the greater love and honor of Our Lord present in the Blessed Sacrament. The purpose of the society: to invite the members to prayer before the Blessed Sacrament during the hours of the night; to deepen the faith, love and commitment of members and to pray for the needs of the church and the world. Devotions are held in the Church, beginning at 10pm on the first Thursday of each month and ending at 6:30am with the first Friday Mass.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

About: Care and the love of knitting have been combined into a prayerful ministry that reaches out to those in need of comfort and solace. Many blessing are knitted into every shawl. Shawls can be requested by contacting the parish office, or e-mailing [email protected]. Please provide name. address, and phone number of person receiving shawl, as well as name and phone number of the person requesting the shawl.
